When installing the Firebird 2.0.1 service via the command-line /VERYSILENT on Windows Vista (fully updated, UAC on AND off) no ODBC connections can be made to the service.
We install the service and ODBC driver as part of our application install, using the silent options on both. On Windows XP it works, on Windows Vista only the .NET data provider can access the database once the installation is complete. Uninstalling and re-installing the service manually (via the interactive install) is the only way things "just work".

Additionally, when performing the interactive install all I have to do is start the install, and click "Next" until the installation completes. I make no changes to the default install options and things work.
This leads me to believe that the options selected for the SILENT install by default are not the same as those for an interactive install, or that something is failing during the silent install but not during an interactive install.
