Installation process displays error:

Unable to execute file:
C:\Program Files\Firebird\Firebird_2_1\bin\instreg.exe

Createprocess failed; code 14001.
This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix the problem.

The same message is then repeated for instclient.exe and instsvc.exe.

The problem is problably related to the recent changes in msvc runtime installation, because FB 2.1.1 can be installed without problems. Once FB 2.1.1 is installed, there are no more problems even with FB 2.1.2 RC1 installation. Also, if I install Visual C++ 2005 redistributable package prior to FB 2.1.2 RC1 installation, there are no errors.

I can't reproduce this, I'm afraid.

I, too, have tested this in a VM of WinXP SP2. It is a clean install. Networking is the only thing configured.

I've also tested on WinXP SP3, too and no problems there.

So, what is different between your clean install and mine?

Is it possible to download the VM from somewhere? I can test it locally if the VM runs under VMWare 5.5 or VirtualBox 2.14

Fix for CORE2111 fixed this issue too.

I suspect the reason was absent quotes around parameter of /L*v switch of msiexec command line. By default user's TEMP environment variable pointed to the path with embedded spaces (for ex. C:\Documents and Settings\<user name>\Local Settings\Temp) therefore msiexec command line was wrong.

At least RC2 installer runs fine in my clean XP SP2 while RC1 installer failed.

Yes, I can confirm that the problem is fixed in 2.1.2 RC2.
