I believe it should be backported into the B2_5_Release branch as well.

Into 2.5.1 may be, but into 2.5.0 - rather no.
Why not? Isn't it a bug in the new feature?
In order not to put off 2.5 release by potentially wrong patch for bug which nobody complained at yet.
