Cluster Client Failover Server Changes Technet 2012 WSV303.pdf

Windows Server 2012 introduces new high-performance storage features.

The new SMB 3.0 protocol with SMB Direct and SMB Multipath features provides support for resilient and high performance (RDMA/iWarp) network connections, which could more than adequately support Firebird database storage requirements.

Cluster File System v2 makes the previous MS cluster file system functionality available for use by any application. For Firebird, it would allow each instance of a Classic server deployment (from a single Firebird host) to open file connections, via SMB 3, which would effectively connect to a separate Windows 2012 cluster host and get high performance access to a database file.

This is the link of a video, from a session at this year's Technet, provides a broader explanation of the new functionality (http://channel9.msdn.com/Events/TechEd/NorthAmerica/2012/WSV303).

I will attach a PDF of the key slide in the presentation which discusses the key changes which would be required to Friebird in order to detect the new SMB connection types and request same.
