Can't install - Windows 8.1 Pro [CORE4517] #4835
Comments
Commented by: @aafemt Because installer works fine with other computers, it is obvious that the problem is in the computer, not installer. |
Commented by: @mrotteveel If it is helpful I can test this on a Windows 8.1 Pro 32 bit VM. |
Commented by: Grzegorz (xxx2) It would be great. Update: The problem was solved, I copy installer to C: drive and everything is ok. I don't know why is not install from my desktop - folder permissions? Anyway thanks for help. Greetings |

Commented by: @reevespaul I finally found time to try and verify this. I haven't got quite the same environment - 8.1 Enterprise 64-bit but it should be functionally the same as 8.1 Pro 32-bit. The O/S install was more or less fresh, with all updates applied and only minimal changes made to the environment (for network configuration). I logged in as a user with admin permissions and installation from a mapped network drive, and from the desktop worked fine in both cases. So I cannot reproduce the problem and am closing the issue. |
Commented by: @mrotteveel I don't agree that 64 bit windows is functionally the same as 32 bit: one is 64 bit with a 32 bit emulation layer, the other is 32 bit; this can introduce a host of subtle differences in behavior. |
Commented by: @reevespaul The problem reported is that at the installer very quickly bails to a help screen after startup and then closes. This is a long way before issues related to the bitness of the host o/s kick in. So I agree that there are diifferences between 32 and 64 bit windows but they are not relevant to this particular problem. |

We had the same problem and it seems to be a bug in the Firebird Installer itself when the word "help" is used in the fullpath where you execute your FB installer. The installer interprets the directory name as the "help" command line parameter and displays the help page... :-( |

Open a installer (simply clicking twice a exe file), installer ask me about choose a language, after selection installer show me window with command-line parameters. Only option is click OK, after that installer close itself. Installer works fine with other computer. I ran it with administrator account and with user account with administrator rights.
