 Description  « Hide
Need to have cryptographic functions in firebird was discussed in fb-devel.
Exactly like with hashes I do not add full set of all available functions - in FB4 only subset of symmetric ciphers (both block & stream) and RSA will be supported. If something else will be needed it's always possible to add required functionality later.

Functions' description is in doc/sql.extensions/README.builtin_functions.txt.

It is interesting feature. Not only from database POV.

This can increase Firebird usage in some places as a tool not RDBMS.
I mean use e.g. FB embedded and call crypto functions definded inside engine.
Many times using crypto functions require external libraries not avaiable from some tool/service.
Now we can have it in the one place which we like, know and use from years.
