A bug or a brainer?
Just as in triggers you have some sort of responisbility of avoiding infinite or recursive loops, in this example (which I guess only will be used to fill up a demo-db), it's just to get the max-pk and then insert... ..where pkval<your_max_val Forget it and focus on the superserver smp. ;-) & thanks for a fantastic db. /tj

I remember being bit by this "problem" with IB 3.2, back in
1991. I don't know what SQL says about this type of
problem, and I don't know if it's easily solvable. The
intent of this comment is to point out that this is not any
kind of new problem, but has existed in the product for at
least 10 years.
