I can't find proper documentation on the default SYSDBA password. There must be one. but I am not sure I have found it. I just installed FIrebird 2.1.2.
I noticed in the quickstart pdf of my install it says to install firebird with a SYSDBA password of masterkey. But it doesn't say how. That must have been for an older version or something, because the installer doesn't ask you for a password to install with.
with gsec to change SYSDBA password now it's a chicken and egg problem. so what is the mysterious SYSDBA password? well, I think I found it in the FAQ, but I am not sure. note that quickstart pdf says you need to install database with password of masterkey, but there is no place in installation to put in such a password (or any other password for that matter) and docs don't say how or give any steps.
It's not anywhere near obvious how to put the password in.
so which documentation is right? FAQ or quickstart guide? please fix wording on one or both of them.

The Quick Start Guide doesn't say that *you* have to provide the masterkey password. It says this:
===
One Firebird account is created automatically as part of the installation process: SYSDBA. This account has all
the privileges on the server and cannot be deleted. Depending on version, OS, and architecture, the installation
program will either
• install the SYSDBA user with the password masterkey (actually, masterke: characters after the eighth
are ignored), or
• ask you to enter a password during installation, or
• generate a random password and store that in the file SYSDBA.password within your Firebird installation
directory.
So, if the installer didn't ask you to provide a password and there is also no file named SYSDBA.password in your Firebird folder, the password is masterke(y).
